Farmers Market Fieldtrip

Today Michele brought her class on a fieldtrip to the Santa Monica Farmers Market. The unique array of vegetable colors inspired Michele to have a purple dinner tonight. They selected purple carrots, japanese eggplant, peruvian purple potatoes, and purple wax beans. Exceptions made: peaches and white corn!

Memorial Day

In honor of Memorial Day, I thought I'd publish a picture of Dad's gravesite. Jeff and his boys had gone to the cemetery prior to the weekend to help the Boyscout Troop place flags in the Vets headstones. They were assigned to the area where Dad's "resting" and were able to place his flag! So nice.

Still Playing Catch-Up: Blessing of the Animals- Easter 2007

In Los Angeles the Blessing of the Animals is a long-standing Angeleno/Catholic tradition. The Saturday before Easter people bring their pets to Olvera Street to be blessed by Cardinal Mahoney. You see an amazing variety of pets: snakes, turtles (little Sydney brought hers), dogs, cats, horses, geese, rabbits, chinchillas, fish, birds, cows, donkeys, etc., etc.
Mom and I took Jeff's 4 youngest (Madison, Sydney, Logan and Devon) downtown to experience the day. We started in Chinatown where the kids threw coins in the famous Chinatown fountain, ate bobba (they spit it out when I told them it was fisheyes... not true but they didn't know it!), bought souvenirs, and walked through the fish markets, herb markets and experienced many new things. From Chinatown we went to Olvera St. and had a nice mexican lunch, walked through an art gallery that had paintings done on tortillas, watched traditional Mexican dancers and the whole ceremony of the blessing. Next we toured through Union Station to admire the beautiful art deco architecture. The kids weren't impressed with that but Mom and I were.

Way Overdue!!!

Yes, it's been months since I've updated the family blog and now seems an excellent time to catch up. Not only is April a grandmother, but Becky is looking forward to beoming one as well X2! Both Chelsea and Brad and Ben and Leigh are due this fall. And John will be having shoulder surgery next month to repair a torn rotator cuff.
Today is Toni's birthday- she spent it planting a new flowerbed. Her gift? A new chicken coop. Amanda is supplying the new chicks.
From Gordon's family- Jason is getting married August 18. GK and Suzanne are moving to NYC in August as well. GK was accepted into the post-graduate publishing program at NYU and Suzanne is auditioning. Gordon also tells me that Adam has decided to follow Jason into the coast guard.
From Jeff's troupe: Michele is running the St. George marathon this October. I applied for it as well but didn't get picked in the lottery :-( Logan and Madison just performed in the Community Choir.
I appreciate Eddie being so good at adding to the blog. It's been fun to check into his blog regularly and watch Matix grow!
If there's any news I didn't add, please feel free to add on or send me the details and I'll add it.
Love you all!
Sydney
