Patriotic Trifle Recipe

By popular demand, here is the recipe for the trifle that Kristy and I brought to Aunt Syd's 4th of July celebration.  Just to reiterate, I (Jeremy) made the trifle for the party.  Yes, I know my way around the kitchen, so what of it!  ;-)  I also know how to make emoticons...ha ha ha.
By the way, you can pick up a 3-qt. trifle dish at Wal-mart for about $7.

Enjoy!

Patriotic Trifle

Ingredients:

1 package (3 ounces) berry blue gelatin (prepare according to the below instructions, not the box instructions)
1 package (3 ounces) strawberry gelatin (prepare according to the below instructions, not the box instructions)
2 cups boiling water
1 cup cold water
2 cups cold milk
2 packages (3.4 ounces each) instant vanilla pudding mix
1 carton (8 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed, divided
1 pint fresh blueberries
1 quart fresh strawberries, quartered
1 prepared angel food cake (8 inches), cut into 1-inch cubes (hint: if the trifle can not be served immediately or needs to travel, I prefer using pound cake, so that the cake does not get mushy)

How to Prepare:
In two small bowls, combine each gelatin flavor with 1 cup boiling water.  Stir 1/2 cup cold water into each.  Pour each into an ungreased 9-in. square pan.  Refrigerate for 1 hour or until set.

In a large bowl, whisk milk and pudding mixes for 2 minutes.  Let stand for 2 minutes or until soft-set.  Fold in 2 cups whipped topping.

Set aside 1/4 cup blueberries and 1/2 cup strawberries for garnish.  Cut the gelatin into 1-in. cubes.  In a 3-qt. trifle bowl or serving dish, layer the strawberry gelatin, half of the cake cubes, remaining blueberries and half of the pudding mixture.

Top with blue gelatin and remaining cake cubes, strawberries and pudding mixture.  Garnish with the reserved berries and remaining whipped topping.  Serve immediately.

Has Anyone Seen My Washcloth?

I was just perusing the pictures again from Arizona and I had to add this. This is post-cupcake, "I'm one and I get to eat it myself" shot. Also known as, "minutes before I have a melt down and crash due to my sugar bomb". The same look I have every night after my sugar fix. Seriously, Avalon is a pretty content little girl.

What a Cute Family!

Jenni invited me to Tuscon to help celebrate Avalon's first birthday and Aarons third; not to mention the happy and safe return home of Daniel. It was a fast (and hot!) one but a very satisfying trip. I flew in on Friday evening and came home Sunday afternoon.
The theme was pirates and princesses. Jenni made this cute tutu for Avalon and princess hats- in true one year old fickeled fashion, she wouldn't wear the hat. None-the-less, she was an adorable princess.

Jenni made this pirate flag on the morning of the party. To say I was impressed would be a huge understatement. She also made a cute pirate outfit but Aaron - in true 3 year old fashion- became a bit fickeled and decided he did not want to wear it. He did wear the shorts during the party.
A bouncy castle had been rented but needless to say, Tuscon was hot and party hosting didn't allow for much time to truly appreciate it. Later that night we all went out to enjoy it in the cool evening air. It proved to be some memorable and endearing family fun.

... and a good time was had by all.

Sydney Risser
Thank you to all the Veterans out there who sacrificed to ensure our freedom. A special thank you to my father who served in the Pacific as a UDT in WWII.
Thank you to my nephew, Jason, and my nieces husbands Joey and Daniel for their service as well.
And a big thank you to the wives and children who sacrifice as well. Jenni, Carlie and Sara, I couldn't possibly be any prouder of you.
